ABOUT US
The town of Dingamo is located in North Central Liberia, about 110 miles away from the capital city of Monrovia. Throughout its existence it has never experienced any form of modernity. For centuries traditional ways of life dominated every facet of livelihood.
Until 1956, a little over a hundred years after Liberia's independence, there were no schools present in the town of Dingamo. People of the village allowed cattle to move freely with the human population, anyone wishing to use the bathroom did so in bushes surrounding the town, people were buried anywhere around the town, drinking water was fetched from contaminated creeks nearby, and educational opportunities were limited as many couldn't afford basic needs such as notebooks, pencils, and pens.
Many of those now spearheading DIMOCO were born and raised in such living conditions. Some were fortunate enough to leave these conditions and branch out into the city to acquire some level of education, however returned to a town which remained unchanged compared to the progression of its surrounding counties. The town was in decline for some time and it is from this background that DIMOCO was conceived to bring about changes and rejuvenate the town.
The governments of many third world countries like Liberia seem to have little interest in the rural population except for taxation purposes. DIMOCO believes that only charity organizations can help make some differences in rural lives. As graduates of these conditions that are widespread throughout African countries, we believe through self initiatives and help from good will people we can make changes for the benefit of others back in our town.
